Get Paid for Your Surplus Renewable Energy
At Ruby Energy, we believe in empowering our customers to make the most of their renewable energy systems. With our Smart Export Guarantee (SEG), you can earn money by exporting excess electricity generated by your solar panels, wind turbines, or other eligible renewable sources back to the National Grid.

What Is the Smart Export Guarantee?
The Smart Export Guarantee is a government-backed initiative that requires energy suppliers to pay small-scale generators for the renewable electricity they export to the grid. This scheme is designed to encourage the adoption of renewable energy technologies and support the UK’s transition to a greener future.
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for Ruby Energy’s SEG tariff, you must meet the following requirements:
- Location: Your renewable energy system must be located in Great Britain.
- Capacity: The total installed capacity should not exceed 5MW (or 50kW for micro-CHP systems).
- Certification: Your installation and installer must be certified under the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) or an equivalent scheme.
- Metering: You must have a meter capable of providing half-hourly export readings, typically a smart meter.
- Feed-in Tariff: You cannot receive SEG payments if you are already receiving export payments under the Feed-in Tariff scheme.
Our SEG tariff offers a competitive rate of 3 pence per kWh for every unit of electricity you export. This fixed-rate tariff provides a straightforward way to earn money from your renewable energy system.
